Awakened Through Obedience

“If you love me, keep my commandments.” — John 14:15 (NIV)

According to Webster Dictionary, obedience is a noun, defined as compliance with an order,

request, law, or submission to another’s authority.

Obedience to God is the key that unlocks the doors to our divine calling. It is through obedience that He awakens us to His purpose and sends us into places we never imagined to spread the Gospel. When God calls, our “yes” is not just an act of faith—it is a step into our purpose and destiny.

When Abraham was called to leave his homeland and everyone and everything he knew, he

obeyed without knowing the full picture (Genesis 12:1-4). His obedience led to the fulfillment of God's covenant and the blessing of nations. When Jesus called the disciples to follow Him, they left everything behind even their families and spouses to walk in their God-ordained purpose (Matthew 4:19-20). Their obedience became the foundation for spreading the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

Obedience Prepares Us for the Unexpected

God often calls us into unfamiliar and uncomfortable places. The birth of Awaken was a step of faith—an act of continuous obedience that has led to transformation, community, and the

spreading of His Word. It reminds me of the time of Esther, who was positioned “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14), our willingness to say “yes” allows God to use us in places we never expected.

Obedience Activates God’s Power

When Peter obeyed Jesus' command to cast his net into the deep after a long night of failure, he experienced an overflow of blessing (Luke 5:4-6). Our obedience doesn’t just impact us—it creates ripples that touch lives, families, and nations. God honors the steps we take in faith and provides exactly what we need for the journey.

Obedience Brings Revival

In Acts 1:8, Jesus tells His followers, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on

you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” The Great Commission, or the Great Awakening requires obedience, and through it, God’s power moves through us to awaken hearts and transform lives.

As we celebrate Awaken on it’s one year anniversary and as we prepare for the very first Camp AM retreat, let us be reminded that obedience is the bridge between being called and being anointed and used by God to bring fulfillment of his will. May we continue to say “yes” to God, stepping into the unexpected and trusting that He will equip us for the mission.

Reflection:

  • What is God calling you to say “yes” to today?

  • What often gets in the way of you being obedient to the voice of God?

  • Are you willing to step into the unknown, trusting that He will lead the way?

May our obedience awaken not only our own hearts but the hearts of those waiting to hear the Good News.

Love You Family,

Krishaun Holbert, The Awaken Team
